The Mermaid Garden
Author: Santa Montefiore
Pages: 400 Reading Level: Adult
Release Date: May 3rd 2011

Not one, but two beautifully written stories. Young love at its best, unfolds in the first story with Floriana and Dante. A poor girl meets rich boy, and they fall in love story, but the heart provides a difficult path to follow.

The second story takes you to the coast of Devon England. Here you find a husband, Grey and his wife, Marina struggling to keep the hotel they own open. Rafa, a handsome, young Argentine is hired by Marina to teach painting during the summer. He soon makes an unforgettable impression on the town, Marina, and her family.

If you believe in the power of love, then I suggest you read The Mermaid Garden. The wonderful details of the settings, take you into a world of love waiting to blossom. I love a book that introduces the characters with such detail, you feel as though you know them. Knowing them, makes your care what happens to them. Isn’t that what we all want in a romance novel?

Congratulations to the One Touch, One Glance Authors!

sweet-cover1Today is the big release of Freya’s Bower’s long awaited One Touch, Once Glance: A Sweet Anthology.

Excerpt from Whispers in the Wind by Kensana Darnell:

The truck had arrived to deliver the new horses, and Ali’s father had promised she could pick the horse she wanted. She ran into the barn, looking around for Tim, the caretaker of her parents’ ranch. He’d been with the family since Ali was five; he was like an uncle to her. Ali made her way into the barn, a cloud of dust in tow.

“Well, good morning, Ali. You’re up early. Can’t imagine why.” A mischievous twinkle appeared in his eyes.

“Are they here?”

“What? Is what here?” He grinned as she ran from stall to stall in search of the new horses.

“Aw, come on, Tim. Where are they?”

“They’re out back in the stable. You can ask—”

Ali tore out of the barn and right into a hard, muscular chest. A pair of big, strong hands on her arms kept her from falling.

“Excuse me, ma’am. I didn’t see you,” the stranger said.

Ali raised her head. Her gaze swept over a massive chest and worked up to a face shadowed by a dark brown Stetson. The pair of hands released her, and she backed away. Squinting, she shielded her eyes from the sun’s stinging rays, and the figure before her came into focus.

Droplets of moisture rolled down his forehead alongside his temples to a tightened jaw line. A wisp of sandy brown hair rested above a pair of hazel eyes. Her gaze fixated upon a hairless, chiseled chest revealed by his partially unbuttoned shirt.

“No, I, uh…should have been watching where I was going,” Ali finally replied.

Timothy strolled out to them. “Ali, this is my nephew, Mitch Colbert. He’s going to give me a hand with the stables for a while.”

Ali extended her hand. “Pleased to meet you, Mitch.”

The man touched the brim of his hat and nodded his head. “Likewise, ma’am.”

“If you need anything,” Timothy continued, “and I’m not around, Mitch can help you.”

Oh, I’m sure he can.

Reviews:

Whispers in the Wind by Kensana Darnell
I always love a good cowboy story. Mitch has a painful past he wants to forget. Allison still has a little growing up to do. Love takes patience, trust, and time to build, but it doesn’t hurt to be on a ranch, under the stars, or taking a horse ride out into the country together. ~Dirty Girl, Dirty Girl Reviews

The emotions in Whispers in the Wind are well explored, and by the time the tale ended, I felt I knew Ali and Mitch as though they were my friends. ~ Nutty Nana, Cocktail Reviews

What I’m Reading

I recently picked up “The Vampire Who Loved Me” by .

Once, as a girl of seventeen, beautiful, headstrong Portia Cabot saved the cursed life of the dashing vampire Julian Kane—who marked her forever, then left to go in search of his soul. He returns five years later to find the enchanting young girl he left behind grown into a bewitching woman with a woman’s heart . . . and a woman’s desires.

Portia quickly discovers that Julian’s seductive and forbidden kiss can still make her crave the night . . . and his touch. But the Julian who has returned to London is not the vampire she remembers. His fruitless pursuit of his stolen mortality has reduced him to drunken debauchery. And a recent spate of murders makes Portia fear that the man she has always adored may truly be a monster.

Julian knows he must drive Portia away—but his passion and hunger for her grow more irresistible every time they touch. For years he has fought the temptation to embrace his dark gifts, never realizing that Portia’s love may give him the most dangerous gift of all . . . a reason to live.

I’ll let you know how it turns out. 🙂 Happy Reading

I’m off and writing!

Thanks to Jambrea, I’ve finally obligated myself to make something happen. Starting with a 400 word short story to a 20,000 word horror/erotic/ paranormal/ scifi/romance with a good dose of comedy story. What a challenge!  Hopefully this will be what it takes to light a fire under me as far as submissions go.

The rules are as follows:

  1. It must be a horror/erotic/ paranormal/ scifi/romance with a good dose of comedy
  2. At least 20k words
  3. We submit to Lyrical Press for publication
  4. If published, we check the sales figures after 90 days, to determine who won.

Submissions are due at the end of October. Good luck to my fellow Writeminded sisters who enter! And may the force be with you. 🙂

Another Great Story…

Stay With Me by Maya Banks
Available today from Samhain Publishing!

Getting her back will be the toughest deal they’ve ever negotiated. On the night of her fifth anniversary, Catherine Cullen-Wellesley intends to break the news to the two men in her life. She’s pregnant with their child. It’ll be the perfect preamble to the vacation they’ve promised her: Two weeks on a Jamaican beach. No cell phones, no emails, no business.

But when Logan and Rhys blow off the trip for yet another “business emergency”, Catherine faces some difficult truths. She hasn’t come first in her busy husbands’ lives in a long time. Defiantly, she packs her bags for her long-awaited vacation—alone. It’ll give her a chance to figure out what the hell she’s going to do with the rest of her life.

When Logan and Rhys come home to an empty house, they realize two things: One, it was a mistake to take Catherine for granted. Two, they’re not willing to just let her walk out of their lives.

Winning her back will be the most difficult battle of their lives—more important than any business deal they’ve ever negotiated.

Warning: This title contains explicit sex, ménage a trois, a polyamorous relationship, graphic language, and sex near a beach (and in the shower).

Gettin’ off my butt

Ok, so I finally got off my butt and did some work on one of my other stories. I decided to get back to work on my blog as well. After all what’s the use in having one if you’re not blogging? I’m hoping it will start my creative juices a flow.

On my journey to becoming a romance writer, I recently learned the difference between a romantic novel and an erotic novel. A lesson learned while reading a lovely story about two vampire brothers who fall for a vampire slayer. Hey it’s about vampires! It drew me in like a moth to a flame. So I started reading…good looking vamp enters…uh uh…heroine enters…uh uh…sexual attraction first encounter. BINGO! I’VE GOT ACTION! Great story. Then enters the other brother. That’s when things turn a little different. The things that I learned about this character made me blush.

That didn’t stop me from reading it though. It did like the story, but I think I may have jumped into it before I was ready. So for now I think I’ll stay on the sidewalk of romance and out of the street of erotic boulevard. tee hee

Blood RedBlood Red by Sharon Page.  A rollercoaster ride of sexual, sensual passion, erotism and yes a love story. Check it out. It opened my eyes!

My heart will go on.

My mind tells me to give up, but my heart won’t let me. I’ve passed the point of no return. I have typed over 32,000 words in my main story. I have no choice but to keep going. It’s been a long hard road with a lot of bright spots. With the inspiration and support of the Writeminded group members, I have to believe this can be done. With a pen in my hand and ink in my blood my writer’s heart will go on. *g*
